September sermon series - Your Church
The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body.
So it is with the body of Christ.
 I Corinthians 12:12

During the month of September, we will take some time to talk about church. We have titled the series “Your Church” because we believe that the church at its core is a collection of people who have been set apart in Christ for the work of the kingdom of God on earth. This series is intended to give you some information about what we believe God has called CGCC to be as a part of the greater body of Christ. We might say that this is the “why” behind the “what” of CGCC. In addition, we want this to be an opportunity for you to consider making this church, “Your Church.” We are excited about what God has done in and through us over the past 8 years and we are anticipating what He will do in the coming weeks and years. Below you will find a weekly breakdown of the series.

Week 1 – The Big “C” Church
This week will explore the question of “Who are we?” What does it mean to be the people or family of God in the world? This is a theological question. What do the Scriptures teach us about who the family of God is? Our theology of church, or our ecclesiology, will direct our activity and the first week will explore the fundamental nature of the church as seen in the New Testament. We must be careful that we don’t try and become the 1st Century church, but rather understand the theology of the church so that we can be a faithful 21st Century church.

Week 2 – The little “c” part 1
The big C church is the universal family of God. Within that “body” there are many units or parts that are all formed together to make one body whose head is Christ. CGCC is a part of the universal body of Christ. We are a part of a much greater whole. But what makes our part unique? We are not promoting better than, but rather unique. We are who we are for a reason and this week we will explore what we believe God has established our community to accomplish in the greater work of the big C church. We will ask the question, “Why does CGCC do it this way?”

Week 3 – The little “c” part 2
Now we will get practical. This is less about a sermon and more about information. We have asked the question of theology, “Who are we?” We have asked the question of praxis, “Why do we do what we do?” And now we will talk practically. “How do we accomplish our little part of the mission?”

Week 4 – Your Church
The church is a collection of people, not an institution. We have a mission before us and a part to play in that mission. CGCC exists for a purpose and we are asking that you consider taking ownership in that mission. We would propose that each one of us also has a part to play in the local expression of the church. Each one of us makes up a part of the body. And for each of us, we have responsibility to own our part and submit it to each other for the greater good of the body. How do we make the transition from ‘the church I go to’ to ‘my church?’

We are very excited about this time. For some, this will be a reminder of what CGCC is about and for others this will be new information. We are hoping that this will provide all of us the necessary level of information to take the next step to commitment in what God is doing among us.

Blessings,
Jeff

Unity Gathering at the Egyptian Room of The Murat Centre
Please plan to join us for a Unity Gathering on Sunday, September 28 at 10:30 am at the Egyptian Room of The Murat Centre in downtown Indianapolis. This Unity Gathering is an opportunity to celebrate what God is doing in our church, and to remind us about the bigger picture and how we fit into it. Services at our Midtown and West locations will not be held that day so that we can all gather together in one place.

Children’s ministry will be provided for infants through age 2, and parents are required to provide a photo ID when they drop off their child. Free street parking is available around the theatre and The Murat Centre lot will also be open for parking. Where possible, please consider carpooling with others as CGCC will be charged for each car parked in the Murat lot.

The Murat Centre is located at 502 N. New Jersey Street. For more information about the venue, please visit their website.
