  House Churches
Are you in a house church?
At Common Ground we view the House Church as a primary place where “church” happens. In the HC venue we gather with others seeking to follow Jesus; the Scriptures talk about this as a new kind of community. In this new community we gather together to worship God, learn from the Scriptures and Holy Spirit, ask questions, discover and use our spiritual gifts and serve one another and the world around us. We believe that having a consistent community for encouragement, discovery, prayer and laughter is an essential aspect of our spiritual journey.

Because of the size of our HC network and the different seasons each HC may be in, we have found it necessary to improve the way we assimilate people into a HC. To this end, we now have an online HC Request Form for people who are interested in a HC to complete. A pastoral placement team will look at this information every couple of weeks to determine the best HC “fit” for each person.

If you are not in a HC but desire to join one, please let us know by completing this online form.

Kingdom Living Training School
Another session of the Kingdom Living Training School has commenced.

For those wondering just what the KLTS really is, what it takes or what it means to be part of it, what we're learning or what we're all about...know this:

that God sent His beloved Son to live amongst us, to teach us His heart and His ways
that His Son was the embodiment of His holy plan for all who love Him
that through His son each of us could live life fully and fully understand
that through Him we could be in Him and
that to love others - all others - as He loved us is greater than all else

From those who have gone before us, and for those whom we go before, we are learning that to love as Jesus loved, we must first understand. We must live and walk with those Jesus lived with, walked with and loved.

To do this, KLTS means going to places such as Toronto, where prostitutes and the homeless exist alongside businessmen and women, students and housewives...where the pain of a fallen world is heartbreakingly palpable. It means going to canyons and beaches to breathe in God's astounding creation while coming face to face with the results of mankind imposing his will upon it. It means reading the Word, daily, searching for the heartsongs, the commandments, and the meaning God infused into each chapter of each book. KLTS means living life with each other, supporting each other as we begin breaking apart the misconceptions of what the world has told us Jesus looks like, what the world has said His kingdom should be, and instead develop a pattern of living such as Jesus commanded in the sermon on the mount.

KLTS is truly a "launching pad" to discern what it looks like to be "ALL IN" for Jesus; to be fully surrendered to being in and bringing to others the kingdom of God. It is an awareness of the need to "walk lightly in the world." It is more than a "class"...it is the arena in which we are discovering that the "greatest gift is to begin to know what life was intended to be like - and to share it with ALL others."

Most importantly, the students of this year's KLTS are learning that "Faith never knows where it is being led, but it knows and loves the One who is leading." As a team searching out our places in the kingdom, we believe that whether we pursue global missions, church plants, ministry at Common Ground or elsewhere, we desire to learn to live as passionately and radically loving as Jesus did, and with the knowledge of God's supernatural power instilled in each of us, we will dedicate our lives to sharing the good news with all those with whom our paths cross, starting in our own backyards.

Those of us participating in KLTS this year would like to ask for your continued prayers as we journey together towards living the Kingdom life. Specifically, for protection, as it is the enemy's goal to attack any effort made to spread His glory; for freedom from the notions of what culture has told us "church" should look like; for endurance, as this will be an long and emotional endeavor; and for our finances, as many of us have left jobs and "security" behind to pursue this new way of learning and living.

We are so excited to share with you all that we will learn along the way!

Unity and Prayer
Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve had several opportunities to gather corporately as one church body. Here’s a quick recap:
  • On September 28, about 850 people worshiped God and celebrated the work He is doing in our church at our Unity Gathering downtown at the Egyptian Room at The Murat Centre.
  • On October 3, our quarterly Revive gathering allowed us to engage as one body in prayer to God, thanking Him for His presence in our lives and listening for his voice.
  • On October 4, our quarterly Training and Equipping provided many of our brothers and sisters with encouragement and equipping in the areas of finance and budgeting, leading our house churches, baptism, and finding their role within the body.

We enjoyed sharing these times together and look forward to additional fellowship at our Leader’s Conference on November 8. In the meantime, please enjoy the pictures below from our Unity Gathering at the Egyptian Room at The Murat Centre. Below are a few pictures from our worship gathering.
