Introducing Heritage Place of Indianapolis
Many Common Ground attenders are aware that another organization, called Heritage Place of Indianapolis, occupies office space at our Midtown facility. The mission of Heritage Place is to provide older adults with comprehensive and coordinated human services to encourage and promote healthy lifestyles, well-being, independence and quality of life.

Executive Director Ruth Ann Schroeder works closely with the Common Ground staff to maximize the building space for adult programming. Seniors visit Heritage Place each week for classes such as bridge (held in our K-1 classroom), sewing (held in the 2nd -4th grade classroom) and chair aerobics (held in the Sanctuary). In addition, there are special one-time programs such as driver education and even tax preparation assistance for those seniors living in Heritage Place’s service area.

Services for seniors are not limited to our building on Illinois Street. The staff and programs of Heritage Place help older adults live independently in their own homes through a unique combination of in-home services and center-based activities.

If you have a heart for seniors and would like to get involved, below is a brief listing of on-going volunteer opportunities for house churches and individuals:
  • In-Home Services – Get to know older adults on a personal level and help them in their homes. You can assist a senior with mowing, planting, weeding, trimming, dusting, vacuuming, moving furniture and sweeping. Tasks and times vary with each individual.
  • Center-Based Activities – Share your talents and skills! We are currently looking for volunteers to lead/teach basic computer, needlecraft, choir, Spanish, physical fitness, drama and art. We’re also open to other ideas for activities.
  • Event Planning - We also need volunteers to plan and implement annual events such as Holiday Celebration, Open House and Spring Fling. We are very flexible with the timing and frequency of activities, so we can fit into the busy schedule of most volunteers.
  • Board of Directors – Serving on the Heritage Place Board of Directors is an opportunity to be involved in fund raising, governance issues and setting policy for our many vital services. The Board meets monthly and terms are for 3 years.

Are you or your house church ready to connect with Heritage Place? To get involved, please email Ruth Ann Schroeder or call 317.283.6662.

Redistribute update
Beginning in November through the middle of January, our church asked how we could participate in bringing us closer to a world where the hungry are fed, the thirsty have water, the naked have clothes and the homeless have a place to call home. Our church's response was to donate over $24,000 to 5 of CGCC's partners to provide after-school care for children and warm snow boots for the homeless, feed and educate children around the world, provide anti-retroviral drugs to children infected with HIV in South Africa, and much more.

Thank you for contributing to this movement to redistribute our resources to those in need and engaging the injustices of our world. To learn more about Redistribute and the participating partners, check out the brochure.
