Mother's University
In a recent e-news, we introduced Heart Change Ministries. Heart Change has been meeting at our Midtown location for several months and we are now home to their Mother’s University.

Mother’s University is one program where Heart Change is seeing lives transformed through Christ’s love. MU is for mothers (and non-mothers) who are ready for change and desire to commit to a 16-week curriculum. The curriculum consists of in-depth Bible studies, parenting classes, financial stewardship, health and hygiene, and healthy relationships. Following the curriculum is a 3 week job-training session coordinated with Jobs Partnership, Inc.

Students of MU are also empowered to pursue their GED, obtain a driver's license, and/or improve their reading comprehension through one-on-one tutoring. Whatever the next step is for the student (completing FAFSA and college applications or other education institution applications) services are available to help them reach their goals. Attendance and homework completion are crucial for graduating and receiving letters of good standing for job references in the future.

Elizabeth Denny, a young mother of two, is the first graduate of Mother’s University. Her graduation ceremony was held in the Community Room of Common Ground on Thursday, March 19. Elizabeth shared her joy and accomplishments in her graduation speech:

Being in Mother’s University has changed my life drastically. Now that God is in our family life has been wonderful – we now have structure, patience, kindness faithfulness, fun and self-control in all we do. Jesus made me feel like a very special person by dying on the cross for me, washing away my sins and giving me a second chance to walk with him in a new life…

Here are some of my favorite Bible verses that I have learned at Mother’s University… Psalm 119:11: ‘I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you’ and that is my prayer as I complete Mother’s University that I may hide his word in my heart and not sin against him. To conclude, Mother’s University is wonderfully changing and I would recommend it to anyone.
Elizabeth is currently preparing to take the GED exam and hopes to help lead a Bible study within Mother’s University. Would you like to learn more about Heart Change Ministries? Please contact Haley Novotny.

Learning to Lead
Learning to Lead (LTL) is a leadership resource that seeks to bring spiritual encouragement and further training to our existing house church leaders and provide an environment where potential new leaders can emerge. Attendance is open to anyone who is currently leading or curious about leadership.

LTL is offered on two different days and times each month so that you can attend the one that works best for you. The next LTLs are Saturday, April 25 from 9 am until 10:30 am and Wednesday, April 29 from 6:30 pm until 8 pm. Registration is not required.

During the upcoming LTLs, we will have a conversation around the topic of Living and Leading from the Center:
  • What does being centered mean?
  • What are the ways to cultivate a centered life?
  • How does being centered affect leadership?
  • How can HCs practice being centered?
A complete list of 2009 LTL dates is available on our online Calendar of Events. Questions? Please contact Jim.
