Looking for something to do tonight?
Each day, hundreds of women and children in Indianapolis find themselves homeless. They may have fallen on tough economic times or they may be fleeing a domestic violence situation. “A Night in Our City” is an event to raise awareness and funding for The Salvation Army's Shelter for Women and Children. Response Church and Salvation Army are sponsoring this event tonight (Friday, June 19) from 6 pm until 9 pm on the corner of Park and 10th Street. Response Church gathers downtown and was co-planted by Common Ground and four other Indianapolis churches.

Why is this event important?
  • Of the 150 women and children served last month at the downtown shelter, 107 were seeking shelter due to domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault, isolation and forced prostitution.
  • The first quarter of this year they have already seen 367 women and 199 children seeking safety and shelter.
  • Last year they served 1,057 women and 728 children, all homeless and/or abused.
  • They serve an average of 6,500 meals per month.

So if you’re looking for something to do tonight, we encourage you to go downtown, enjoy a slice of HotBox pizza, a glass of fresh squeezed lemonade, and a hot cup of coffee provided by Starbucks. Listen to some live music, play carnival games with your kids, and participate in a silent auction…all to empower and uplift the abused women and children in our city.

Learning to Lead - Wednesday only in June
Learning to Lead (LTL) is a leadership resource that seeks to bring spiritual encouragement and further training to our existing house church leaders and provide an environment where potential new leaders can emerge. Attendance is open to anyone who is currently leading or curious about leadership.

The next LTL is Wednesday, June 24 from 6:30 pm until 8 pm at our Midtown location (4550 N. Illinois Street). Unfortunately, we are unable to offer a Saturday morning LTL in the month of June.

Our topic for discussion will be The Power of Vision. Proverbs 29:18 says, “where there is no vision, the people perish.” Some of the questions we’ll be addressing are:

- How do we receive vision?
- How do we know it’s from God?
- How do we communicate vision?

A complete list of 2009 LTL dates is available on our online Calendar of Events. Questions? Contact Jim.

Parent Pages - going green
As you may know, Common Ground provides monthly parent pages that are age appropriate and provide a great way to incorporate the Lord into your family and house church life. They provide an overarching topic that guides the month’s weekly themes, Bible verses, discussion topics and activities.

In the past, these parent pages have been available in the children’s classrooms and also on our website. In our continuing attempt to go green, we will no longer be printing these pages. The parent pages will now be available exclusively on our website. If you desire a printed copy, but do not have the resources to print one, please contact Martina.

Our June, July and August pages are now available online. We encourage you to take a look at them and make time to incorporate some of these ideas into your summer plans.

Mission Partner Profile – Christine Twedt
I am on staff with Greek InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (Greek IV), working specifically with fraternity and sorority students on college campuses. I am the Regional Coordinator of Greek Ministry in Great Lakes West (Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan). My primary responsibilities are to develop and expand Greek Ministry on campuses across these states, to lead and develop the Greek IV Staff Team in the region, and to run our Greek Leadership Site in Indianapolis which trains all of our first year Greek Staff in the region and elsewhere. I love my job and have been on staff with Greek IV for the last 10 years.

I became passionate about ministering to fraternities and sororities while I was in college at Butler University. I was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority when a Greek IV staff started a Bible study in our house for four weeks. At the end of four weeks she asked if I would be willing to lead the Bible study and she would move on to the Kappa House! I told her NO WAY! She said she'd pray for me. You can guess what happened from there. . .I ended up leading the Bible study and God used it to minister to my own heart and what it meant to fully follow him as my Lord and Savior.

If you are interested in more information about Greek InterVarsity you can visit their website. If you are interested in financial partnership, please visit this site or contact me personally.
