House Churches

For most of us, when we think about the church building and how it’s
used, we picture church on Sunday. After all, we’re typically not here
unless we’re worshipping or cleaning with our house church. However,
did you know that our current Midtown building at 6151 N. Central
Avenue is home to the largest AA meeting in Indianapolis? We also host
an additional AA meeting, an Al-anon meeting and an NA meeting during
the week. Weekends are also busy as Trinity Church has their weekly
worship service here on Saturday nights.
So, what are we going
to do with the building once we move into our new Midtown location at
46th and Illinois? We plan to retain the building for at least 1 year
and Trinity Church will utilize the building for office and worship
space. This will allow current meetings in the building to continue.
For the next year our only use of the current facility will be
quarterly training & equipping. In a year, we’ll make a
determination whether to sell or continue to use the building at 6151
N. Central. Back to Top

Our change to a multi-site church offers us many opportunities to
impact the city of Indianapolis with the Gospel. With two locations,
we want to continue to remind ourselves that we are still one church
who gathers on Sundays in different locations.
On Sunday
November 11, we are going to share together in a Unity Gathering at
Clowes Memorial Hall on the Butler campus at 10:30 am. This Unity
Gathering is an opportunity to celebrate what God is doing in our
church, and to remind us about the bigger picture and how we fit into
it. Services at our Midtown and West locations will not be held that
day so that we can all gather together in one place.
Children’s
ministry will be provided for infants through age 2, and parents are
required to provide a photo ID when they drop off their child. In
addition, coffee and pastries will be provided beginning at 9:30. We
hope that everyone will come early and enjoy a time of unity and
fellowship prior to the worship service. Back to Top

Common Ground is excited to announce our Vision Trips, formerly known as mission trips, for 2008. God is giving His church (us) a vision for His kingdom, and that vision is to live missional lives. He is calling us to go out – both locally and globally – to learn more about Him. We are to taste, touch, see, hear and feel this vision of who God is and what He’s up to around the world. We hope you will make the journey with us in 2008 and allow God to instill His vision for the nations in you.

Renovations are well underway at our new Midtown building at the corner
of 46th and Illinois. Recently, a new perimeter drain was installed to
help move water away from the building to keep the basement dry. Great
progress is also being made is the areas of plumbing, electrical
upgrades and installation of new heating and air conditioning units.
Construction
and renovations to the new building should be completed by late
November or early December, and we anticipate holding worship services
there starting in January. If your house church is interested in
holding a work day at the building, please contact Doug Collins at doug@cground.org.
Below are pictures of some recent construction work.

New coordinators in our children's ministry We’ve had several
changes in our children’s ministry. First, we would like to thank
Amanda Short for her service as she retires from her role as
coordinator for our 5&6 class. Carol Collins, who previously served
as coordinator for our two oldest classrooms – 7&8 and 9-12, will
now coordinate the 5&6 class. Carter Shepherd and Vanessa Wilkins
will assume the coordinator positions in the older classrooms. Carter
will serve in the 7&8 room and Vanessa in the 9-12. Thanks to all
for their servant’s hearts and dedication to our children.
Baby Dedication The
next Baby Dedication is Sunday, November 4. The registration deadline
is October 26 and space is limited. To register, contact Shawn at shawn@cground.org. For more information on dedication, download the information page.
