What Does ''Church Membership'' mean at Common Ground?
|
Membership at CGCC is identified first and foremost on the local, House Church level. To join the community at CGCC means that you have committed yourself to following Jesus with others. The House Church will be identified within the network of CGCC House Churches. This is not the typical method or practice for church membership. We believe that the church exists to declare the goodness of God’s kingdom that has been made known to the world through Jesus Christ. We do this by submitting ourselves first to God and then to others so that Christ might be formed in us and that the world will see God’s kingdom come through us. Membership formalizes this desire in the individual’s heart and places them in submission to the community for their participation toward their spiritual formation. Membership is the vehicle by which you verbalize and actualize your desire to be formed in the image of Christ with this particular group of people and that you are submitting yourself to their community as well as fully participating with the gifts that you have been given. We believe the goal of following after Jesus and growing in maturity is only possible in relationship with others who have the same desire. As leaders who have been charged with discipling people in their relationship with Jesus, we want to give you the best possible context for that to happen. The House Church is that context. Why Membership? Membership is important in that it gives us the opportunity to commit to a relationship between myself and the community.
