Sunday Gathering Information (Midtown)

At Common Ground we see following Jesus as a communal adventure where everyone (“the family”) is involved in the spiritual formation process. One context where this is expressed is through our Sunday gathering, where our church gathers weekly for corporate worship, communion and teaching. Though these common elements are found in each weekly gathering, we actively submit to the Holy Spirit’s leading to determine how each gathering will take shape. Most Sunday gatherings last for approximately 75 minutes.

Each Sunday morning gathering also includes a special opportunity for children (infant through sixth grade) to be cared for and engaged at their level. With the help of committed volunteers, our children’s ministry provides a safe environment where children can be taught and encouraged by loving adults. At both our Midtown and Westside sites, children are broken into age/grade groups to allow for age appropriate activities and instruction.

At our Midtown site, most of our children’s ministry classes are located in the northeast corner of our building in the children’s ministry hallway.
  • Age appropriate classes include: Nursery (0-20 months), Toddlers (21-36 months), Preschool, K-1st, 2nd-4th, 5th-6th.
  • Children age 0–1st grade should be checked into their classrooms prior to the start of service.
  • Children in grades 2–4 should be checked into their classrooms prior to service, and then proceed to the main worship service until they are dismissed to their classrooms.
  • Children in grades 5–6 remain in the main worship service until they are dismissed to their classrooms. They do not check in prior to class.
Based on the content of the sermon and the anticipated flow of the gathering, we will occasionally not dismiss the older children to their classes. Please know that when this is done it is done very intentionally with the expectation that the entire family will benefit from worshipping and learning together.
