Training and Equipping

Like an electrician learning the trade, followers of Jesus are called to be trained and equipped for ministry (Eph. 4). The word "equip" from Ephesians 4:12 is a Greek medical term that literally means "set a bone." The idea suggests that to "walk the walk," the church must be aligned and strengthened in understanding and living the faith.

The process of setting bones takes time and requires the help of others. This is the vision for our quarterly Training and Equipping classes, which integrate hands-on-training, spiritual formation and academic teaching to equip the church for ministry.

There are two different approaches to T&E: single day sessions and a new multi-week option. The schedule for 2010 is as follows:
  • February 6 – single day
  • March/April – multi-week
  • September/October – multi-week (dates are to be announced)
  • November 13 – single day
T&E classes are selected by following the grid introduced in the Balanced-Life of Jesus sermon series. The grid consists of four quadrants that express different ways Jesus lived and equipped His disciples. They are as follows: Word, Spirit, Solitude/Community and Justice. In addition, T&E will consistently offer a Marriage/Parenting option.
