Earlier this year, our West congregation added two new elders to our elder board: Angie Smith and Marilyn Schulte. They join Todd McClure, Matt Tenney and Bryan Alexander as shepherds of West congregation. Please join us in welcoming them!
Angie Smith grew up in a small town in Ohio and moved to Indianapolis after college in 2004. She began attending Common Ground shortly after arriving in Indy and had the privilege of being a part of the West church plant. She has been a long time house church leader and enjoys teaching in the children’s ministry. Angie spends her days with first graders teaching them truth, goodness and beauty at The Oaks Academy.
Angie has a passion for connecting with the Holy Spirit and hopes to help lead others to experience Him more deeply. She is excited to be a part of an eldership team that desires to discern the Spirit’s will for the congregation, as well as provide a safe place for all people to be invited into the body. Some of her favorite things are sitting on the porch, playing with her niece and travelling.
Marilyn moved to Indianapolis after college and began attending Common Ground in 2001. She has been part of the West church plant since its inception. Marilyn and her husband, Scott Rice, were married in June 2014. After getting married, they bought KayLeo, a property the provides space for community on the west side of Indianapolis. Marilyn has served as a house church leader and on the Vision Team.
Marilyn is a middle school special education teacher in Pike Township. She has a passion for social justice, giving a voice to the voiceless, and creating community. She hopes to encourage others to look outside the walls of the church to demonstrate the love of Jesus. In her free time she enjoys reading, traveling, hiking and rescuing animals.
