Eugene Vision Trip
![]() *Additional Vision Trip Resources below: PURPOSE: In January of 2009, a team of eight people from Common Ground moved together to Eugene, Oregon to pursue a vision of planting a local faith community in one of the most unchurched states in the U.S. It is estimated that 92-96% of the city of Eugene is “unchurched”. In fact, one of the key questions facing the church planting team is, “how do you engage a culture that is unaware of their need for a savior?” The team knows that only God can create a desire for God in the hearts of man, and believe that God has invited them to be a part of the process He uses to awaken hearts to the reality of who he is. This August, Common Ground will be sending a Vision Trip team to serve and learn alongside what is now Awakening Church. The purpose of this trip is:
WHEN: August 24-September 1 (Application/Deposit deadline: June 4) WHAT IS THE COST: The estimated cost of the trip is $600. Don't let finances keep you from applying or pursuing the trip opportunity. Financial assistance is available for vision trip participants who are part of a Common Ground House Church, and the request form can be accessed here. *Requests will not be evaluated or approved until three weeks prior to trip departure date. This financial assistance opportunity is intended to supplement trip participant's active engagement in sacrificial giving, fundraising efforts, and faithful prayer for financial provision. The submission of this financial assistance request does not guarantee the receipt of funds and each request will go through a review process. The minimum team size is five members and the trip will be canceled if the minimum size is not reached. *This is a family friendly trip and children under the age of 18 may participate if accompanied by a parent. ABOUT THE CITY: Eugene is the second largest city in the U.S. state of Oregon and the county seat of Lane County. It is located at the south end of the Willamette Valley, at the confluence of the McKenzie and Willamette rivers, about 50 miles (86 km) east of the Oregon Coast. As of 2008, Eugene had a population of 154,620, and the Greater Eugene-Springfield metropolitan statistical area (MSA) had a population of 345,880. Eugene is home to the University of Oregon. The city is also noted for its natural beauty, recreational opportunities (especially bicycling, running/jogging, rafting, kayaking), focus on the arts, activist political leanings, and residents with "alternative" lifestyles. Eugene's motto is "The World's Greatest City of the Arts and Outdoors." It is also referred to as the "Emerald City", and "Track Town, USA." The Nike corporation had its beginnings in Eugene.
