The mission of Common Ground is to call people of all ages to be formed into the image of Jesus so we can love our neighbors in Indianapolis and around the world. In doing so, we hope to join with God in the restoration of the world through sacrificial love.
Spiritual formation is the process of being shaped by the Spirit into the image of Christ, filled with love for God and our neighbors. This process of transformation was never intended to happen in isolation. When Jesus called individuals to follow him, he also called them into a new kind of community – the church. The early church provided a place for individuals (young and old) to “belong” and “be trained” in the way of Jesus. The church functioned as “first family,” not defined by a family tree but by allegiance to Jesus and sought together to be formed in His image.
We too see following Jesus as a communal adventure where everyone (“the family”) is involved in the spiritual formation process. So from our corporate gatherings, to house churches, to training experiences, we seek to be formed into the image of Christ.
We also believe God is active in the world, drawing people to Himself from every tribe, tongue and nation. From God’s promise to Abraham that his descendants would be a blessing to all nations, to Jesus’ command to go into all the world in His name, we believe God’s intent is that those who love and follow Him would witness to the world of the reality and goodness of God. Whether here in Indianapolis, or on the other side of the globe, our hope is that each person at Common Ground would be inspired, equipped, and released to share the good news of Jesus, and to show what life in His Kingdom is like.
