Uganda Vision Trip
*Additional Vision Trip Resources below: PURPOSE: Partner with Restoration Gateway (RG) in Northern Uganda to join in the restoration of a country that has been brutalized by a 20-year war between the Lord's Resistance Army and the Ugandan government. Strategically located on a 500-acre plot overlooking the Nile River, RG exists to be a gateway for God’s restoration of Northern Uganda by joining Christ in building community and healing wounds among the vulnerable and war-torn people of this country.The team will spend time with the 70+ orphans that live at RG, engage in ministry opportunities with the orphans, RG workers and the people that live in the surrounding villages, participate in a team project that will be determined based on the skill set of the team, and conclude the week with a team outing to Murchison Falls National Park. WHERE: Northern Uganda (south of Gulu) WHEN: May 19-28 (Application/Deposit Deadline: February 13) *Requests will not be evaluated or approved until one month prior to trip departure date. This financial assistance opportunity is intended to supplement trip participant's active engagement in sacrificial giving, fundraising efforts and faithful prayer for financial provision. The submission of this financial assistance request does not guarantee the receipt of funds and each request will go through a review process. COUNTRY INFORMATION: The colonial boundaries created by Britain to delimit Uganda grouped together a wide range of ethnic groups with different political systems and cultures. These differences prevented the establishment of a working political community after independence was achieved in 1962. The dictatorial regime of Idi Amin (1971-79) was responsible for the deaths of some 300,000 opponents; guerrilla war and human rights abuses under Milton Obote (1980-85) claimed at least another 100,000 lives. The rule of Yoweri Museveni since 1986 has brought relative stability and economic growth to Uganda. In the mid to late 1990s, he was lauded by the West as part of a new generation of African leaders. His presidency has included involvement in the civil war in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and other conflicts in the Great Lakes region, as well as the civil war against the Lord's Resistance Army, which has been guilty of numerous crimes against humanity including child slavery and mass murder. Conflict in northern Uganda has killed thousands and displaced millions. Several people from the CGCC body have responded and are pursuing the opportunity of joining a CGCC team that will be moving to Northern Uganda in 2013 and serving alongside Restoration Gateway.
