CALLING ALL ARTISTS

This year's theme for Lent at CG Midtown will be The Table of Christ. During the Lenten season we will reflect on all of the different table encounters that Jesus had through the Gospel of Luke, and we're looking for art that reflects your interpretation of that theme.

We will have space in our foyer for this art to be displayed during Lent. If you are a writer or painter, sculptor or photographer, illustrator or potter — of any age or skill level! — we invite you to bless our congregation with your gifts and talents! We will begin displaying all artwork on Sunday, March 10, and displays will remain up all throughout Lent.

Simply bring your artwork on or after March 10 and look for the display. You can take your art home after Easter Sunday.

CORPORATE FASTING & FRUITS OF THE FAST

In his message on Sunday, March 3, lead pastor Jeff Krajewski laid out the idea for a corporate fast through Lent:

Everyone in our CG Midtown community is invited to fast during lunch on Wednesdays (or another day that works for you). Bring the money you didn’t spend on Wednesday’s lunch with you to church on Sunday, and put it in the Fruit of the Fast donation box on the communion table.

The collective funds from our fast during Lent will be given to the MLK Center at 40th and Illinois, and will help fund their summer youth work outreach.

LENT GUIDE

Our theme for Lent this year will be The Table of Christ. To guide us, we will focus on the Gospel of Luke, and pay special attention to the encounters Jesus had at a table. Each time we see Jesus at a table, we notice something that is true about God’s love and His kingdom coming in and through the person of Jesus.

FAMILY DEVOTIONAL

Common Ground Midtown observes Lent as a deliberate way to join with the church around the world in preparing for Easter. This Lent devotional is meant to be a simple and significant way to connect with God each Sunday during Lent and daily during Holy Week.

FALL CREEK ABBEY HOLY WEEK RETREATS

Holy Week is a solemn time in the Christian Calendar as we remember and reflect on Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection. Why not take a half or full day silent retreat as a way to participate in this holy season? You will be given a private room and a printed guide to help provide direction for your time. Silence will be broken from noon to 1 pm during a communal lunch for all retreatants—those coming, going or staying.

The cost is $30 for a half-day retreat; $60 for a full-day retreat; lunch is included in the cost. Read more and register here.
