Care & Development of Women
Providing care and development structures for women is a new initiative introduced this year in CG Midtown's 3x3x3 Vision for 2018. Here you'll find resources and updates on progress from our Care & Development of Women gatherings, as well as new structures created to empower women as we continue to pursue interdependence together.
Pastoral & Urgent Care for Women at CG Midtown
Providing pastoral care for women at Common Ground is a significant part of our 3x3x3 Interdependence Vision for 2018. Currently, pastoral care happens at a structural level within the house church setting, with a male staff pastor, or possibly with a female staff/elder. What follows is a proposal to provide women a clear path for urgent pastoral care.
Pastoral care (and counsel) is broadly defined, but probably could be understood by the following categories:
Having someone listen to you and provide guidance through the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Having someone disciple you by anchoring you in God’s word.
Based on these categories, we have asked three women in community at CG Midtown to use their spiritual gifts and ministry experience to help with pastoral care for women:
Each of these women are fully capable of providing care in other areas of pastoral care, but have chosen a specific area based on their giftings and experience.
Process for Pastoral Care
The process for women seeking urgent or pastoral care is as follows: Using the buttons above, please contact either Joyce, BJ, or Sandee and provide the following information:
- Name and email address
- How long you've attended CG Midtown
- Are you enrolled in a House Church and, if so, which one
- Briefly describe what you would like to discuss in your time together
(A pre-populated email message with this outline should be provided for you when you use the buttons above.)
You'll meet with Sandee, Joyce, or BJ one to three times, depending on the nature of the discussion, and be provided with a plan for further pastoral care (if needed).
2018 Care & Development of Women Initiative
Care & Development of Women Survey
To better understand the spiritual needs of women at CG Midtown survey was created and completed by nearly 50 respondents in February 2018. The survey results were summarized and reviewed by CG Midtown staff, and shared with nearly 40 women who attended the Care & Development of Women Conversation on March 3, 2018.
Care & Development of Women Conversation - March 2018
In March 2018, nearly 40 women met at CG Midtown to review, discuss, and expand on the survey delivered earlier in the year. Guided by women of Common Ground, the conversation event sought to dig deeper into what it looks like to create meaningful opportunities for women to pursue fully their calling in ministry and kingdom purposes.
Among other topics, event attendees were discussed four major questions:
Do you agree with the statement, “Women can’t lead at Common Ground”?
What would it look like for you to use your giftings at Common Ground, and how do you think people would perceive you if you stepped into those gifts?
What does it look like for you to be in deep, meaningful relationship with Christian women?
How do the survey responses regarding biblical knowledge and deepening relationship with God resonate with you?
Extensive notes were taken from these conversations and will be used to direct next steps for these conversations, and to build even greater resources for Midtown women to lean in to leadership roles at Common Ground.
